247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has decided that the reinstatement of PIS and Cofins taxes on gasoline and ethanol will be gradual, maintaining the Treasury's revenue forecasts. Thus, the president is satisfying both the so-called "political wing" and the so-called "technical wing." This information comes from Valdo Cruz, of [source name missing]. G1

The details of the proposal have not yet been defined. Alternatives that have been discussed include the return of taxes on gasoline at 75% of the total and on ethanol at 25%, or at 50% for both products.

"According to government officials, the formula to be released will be based on three principles: environmental sustainability, by taxing fossil fuels more; social sustainability, by penalizing the consumer less; and economic sustainability, guaranteeing an extra R$ 28 billion in revenue by the end of the year," writes the columnist.
