Former mayor Fernando Haddad was the longest-serving Minister of Education in the New Republic, and Ambassador Mauro Vieira is one of the closest associates of former Foreign Minister Celso Amorim.
By Infomoney - President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) reportedly confirmed the names of his future ministers in conversations with politicians this week.
Second report from the newspaper Valor Econômico This Friday (2), Lula reportedly told allies that Fernando Haddad (PT), former mayor of São Paulo, will be the new Minister of Finance.
If the news is confirmed, Haddad will return to the Esplanade of Ministries after an 11-year hiatus. He was the longest-serving Minister of Education under the New Republic and had been considered the favorite to lead the new government's economic team.
His name gained even more strength when Lula appointed him as a representative to participate in a lunch promoted by the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) last Friday (25).
According to a report in Valor Econômico, Mauro Vieira, Brazil's ambassador to Croatia, has been chosen to head Itamaraty – a position he held during the government of Dilma Rousseff (PT).
Vieira is one of the closest associates of former Foreign Minister Celso Amorim, Lula's main aide on international affairs. There are plans to reinstate the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs to accommodate him, or to make him a special advisor to the Presidency of the Republic for international affairs – a position held by Marco Aurélio Garcia during Lula's first term in the Planalto Palace.
According to the report, Lula also confirmed the name of José Múcio Monteiro, former president of the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) for the Ministry of Defense.
Senator-elect Flávio Dino (PSB-MÁ), former governor of Maranhão, is expected to occupy the Ministry of Justice, confirming his favoritism among betting banks.
Lula's signals were reportedly given in meetings with politicians during a dinner held at the home of Senator Katia Abreu (PP-TO), in Brasília.
