BRASILIA (Reuters) - The government leader in the Chamber of Deputies, José Guimarães (PT-CE), stated this Thursday (2) that the Executive should submit a tax reform proposal by April.

According to the leader, the idea is that the proposal to be presented by the government will be based on the two Proposed Amendments to the Constitution (PEC) on the subject that are already being processed in Congress.

"We will have the first conversations at the beginning of the week with the (Finance) Minister (Fernando) Haddad, so that we can seek, in the short term, at the latest by April, as the minister wants, for us to present, for the government to present, a good and consistent tax reform proposal based on the two PECs that are being processed," Guimarães told reporters.

The congressman also reported that one of the government's current focuses is to consolidate its support base in Parliament, which is why President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is expected to host a breakfast meeting next Wednesday with leaders and presidents of parties that support him.
