IPCA-15, the inflation preview, slows to 0,18% in October
According to IBGE data, the index has accumulated an increase of 3,94% in the year and 4,94% in 12 months.
247 - Brazil's National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15), considered a preview of the country's official inflation rate, registered an increase of 0,18% in October, according to data released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). This result represents a decrease of 0,30 percentage points compared to September, when the index had risen 0,48%.
According to IBGE, the IPCA-15 (Extended National Consumer Price Index) accumulates an increase of 3,94% in 2025 and 4,94% in the last 12 months, a result lower than the 5,32% observed in the previous period. In October 2024, the rate was 0,54%, indicating a more consistent slowdown in inflation.
Transportation drives increase
Of the nine product and service groups surveyed, six showed an increase in October. The Transportation sector had the greatest positive influence, with an increase of 0,41% and an impact of 0,08 percentage points on the overall index.
Fuel (1,16%) and airfare (4,39%) were the main drivers of the increase. Ethanol (3,09%), gasoline (0,99%), and diesel (0,01%) registered increases, while vehicular gas saw a slight decrease of 0,40%. Adjustments in urban bus fares (0,32%) and subway fares (0,03%) also contributed to the result.
Personal expenses and housing show moderate variations.
The Personal Expenses group rose 0,42%, driven by cinema, theater and concerts (2,05%), tourist packages (1,97%) and domestic employees (0,52%).
In the Housing sector, there was a significant slowdown: the index went from 3,31% in September to 0,16% in October. The main negative influence came from residential electricity, which fell by 1,09%, reflecting the adoption of the red tariff flag level 1, with an additional cost of R$ 4,46 for every 100 kWh consumed.
Even so, sub-items such as bottled gas (1,44%) and residential rent (0,95%) increased and prevented a larger drop in the group.
Food prices see fifth consecutive decline.
The Food and Beverages group, which has the greatest weight in the IPCA-15, showed a decline of 0,02%, marking the fifth consecutive drop. Food at home fell 0,10%, influenced by reductions in the prices of onions (-7,65%), chicken eggs (-3,01%), rice (-1,37%) and long-life milk (-1,00%).
In contrast, soybean oil (4,25%) and fruits (2,07%) registered increases. Eating out also slowed down, going from 0,36% in September to 0,19% in October, with a more moderate increase in snacks (0,42%) and meals (0,06%).
Goiânia leads the increase, while Belém registers deflation.
Among the 11 regions surveyed, seven showed positive variation. Goiânia had the largest increase (1,30%), driven by significant rises in ethanol (23,80%) and gasoline (10,36%). Belém was the only region with deflation (-0,14%), reflecting the drop in prices of açaí (-6,77%) and whole chicken (-3,55%).
