247 - Brazil is experiencing its highest food inflation in 28 years, or since the beginning of the Real Plan, according to data from the IPCA (National Consumer Price Index). 

The food and beverage group still shows accumulated inflation of 9,54% for the year, from January to September. The IPCA, calculated by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), is the country's official price index. Analysts believe that food prices are likely to remain high until December, according to a report by [source name missing]. FSP.

The high cost of living primarily affects the poorest population, because food purchases consume a larger share of these families' budgets compared to higher-income brackets.
