Consumer Confidence Index rises for the fourth consecutive month in January.

The Consumer Confidence Index, measured by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), rose 3,6 points from December to January, reaching 96,6 points on a scale of zero to 200 points; this was the fourth consecutive increase in the indicator, which reached its highest level since February 2014 (97,3 points).

The Consumer Confidence Index, measured by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), rose 3,6 points from December to January, reaching 96,6 points on a scale of zero to 200 points. This was the fourth consecutive increase in the indicator, which reached its highest level since February 2014 (97,3 points).

The index is 8 points higher than in January of last year. In January, consumers improved their assessments of both the current situation and their expectations for the coming months.

The Current Situation Index, which measures confidence in the present, rose 1,2 points to 76,8 points, maintaining its upward trajectory for the third consecutive month and reaching its highest level since May 2018 (77,2). The component of satisfaction with the current economic situation rose 2,4 points, while satisfaction with the financial situation of families remained stable.

The Expectations Index, which measures confidence in the coming months, rose 5,1 points to 110,7 points, the highest level since June 2012 (111,8 points). The component relating to household financial situation in the coming months increased by 7,4 points, while the component relating to the future economic situation grew by only 3,8 points.
