Ibovespa closes lower, with WEG and Embraer standing out amid concerns about US tariffs.
The financial volume totaled R$14 billion before final adjustments.
SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Brazil's Ibovespa closed lower on Thursday, reflecting concerns about the potential effects of US trade tariffs that are set to take effect next week, with shares of giants WEG and Embraer among the biggest losers.
The Ibovespa, the benchmark index of the Brazilian stock market, fell 1,21% to 133.736,98 points, according to preliminary data, having reached a low of 133.647,84 points and a high of 135.362,58 points during the day.
The financial volume totaled R$14 billion before final adjustments, well below the daily average for the month of R$21,2 billion, confirming the cautious scenario as the deadline for the start of the 50% US tariff on Brazilian products approaches on August 1st, with no agreement in sight.
