IBGE: Unemployment affects 13,1 million people.
The unemployment rate in Brazil under Michel Temer's government stood at 12,6% in the quarter ending in August of this year; according to data released by IBGE this Friday, the 29th, the unemployed population was estimated at 13,1 million, representing a 4,8% decrease compared to the previous quarter; however, compared to the same quarter of the previous year, when there were 12,0 million unemployed people, this estimate rose 9,1%, or 1,1 million more people.
Reuters - The unemployment rate in Brazil stood at 12,6 percent in the three months to August, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported on Friday.
The median forecast in a Reuters poll was that the rate would remain at 12,7 percent during the period.

The unemployed population was estimated at 13,1 million, representing a decrease of 4,8% (658 fewer people) compared to the previous quarter. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, when there were 12,0 million unemployed people, this estimate increased by 9,1% (1,1 million more people).
The employed population (91,1 million) showed an increase of 1,5% compared to the previous quarter (an increase of 1,4 million people). Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, when there were 90,1 million employed people in Brazil, this indicator showed a positive variation of 1% (an increase of 1 million people).
The number of employees with formal employment contracts (33,4 million) remained stable compared to the previous quarter (March to May 2017). Compared to the June-July-August 2016 quarter, there was a decrease of -2,2% (765 fewer employees).
The number of employees without formal work contracts (10,8 million people) grew by 2,7% compared to the previous quarter, representing an increase of 286 people. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, there was an increase of 5,4% (an additional 552 people).
The category of self-employed workers (22,8 million people) grew by 2,1% compared to the March-April-May quarter (an increase of 472 people). Compared to the same period of the previous year, there was also a positive variation: 2,8%, representing an increase of 612 people.
The average real habitual income (R$ 2.105) in the June-July-August 2017 quarter remained stable compared to the previous quarter (R$ 2.116) and also in relation to the same quarter of 2016 (R$ 2.066). The unemployment rate was estimated at 12,6% in the moving quarter for the months of June to August 2017, registering a reduction of 0,7 percentage points compared to the quarter from March to May 2017 (13,3%). In comparison with the same moving quarter of the previous year, June to August 2016, when the rate was estimated at 11,8%, the situation showed an increase (0,8 percentage points).
In the June-August 2017 quarter, there were approximately 13,1 million unemployed people in Brazil. This figure represents a 4,8% decrease, or 658 fewer people, compared to the March-May 2017 quarter, when unemployment was estimated at 13,8 million. The employment rate (an indicator that measures the percentage of employed people in the working-age population) was estimated at 54,0% in the June-August 2017 quarter, showing an increase of 0,6 percentage points compared to the March-May 2017 quarter (53,4%). Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, this indicator did not show a statistically significant variation.
The workforce (employed and unemployed individuals) in the June-August 2017 quarter was estimated at 104,2 million people. This population showed an increase of 0,7% (716 more people) compared to the March-May 2017 quarter. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, there was an expansion of 2,0% (an increase of 2,0 million people).
The labor force participation rate (an indicator that measures the percentage of people in the labor force in the working-age population) was estimated at 61,8% in the June-August 2017 quarter, showing no statistically significant variation compared to the March-May 2017 quarter (61,6%). In relation to the same quarter of the previous year (61,4%), the scenario showed an expansion of 0,4 percentage points.
The contingent outside the labor force, in the June-August 2017 quarter, was estimated at 64,4 million people. This population was observed to have remained stable in relation to both comparative quarters.
The number of employees in the private sector with formal employment contracts (excluding domestic workers), estimated at 33,4 million people, remained stable compared to the previous quarter (March to May 2017). Compared to the quarter from June to August 2016, there was a decrease of -2,2% (765 fewer people).
Between June and August 2017, the category of employees in the private sector without formal employment contracts (10,8 million people) showed an increase compared to the previous quarter (2,7%), representing an increase of 286 people. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, it registered an increase of 5,4%, an estimated additional 552 people.
The category of self-employed workers, comprising 22,8 million people, registered a 2,1% increase compared to the previous quarter (March to May 2017), representing an addition of 472 people to this group. The number of employees in the public sector (including civil servants and military personnel), estimated at 11,5 million people, increased by 2,6% (295 people) compared to the previous quarter (March to May 2017). Compared to the quarter from June to August 2016, there was no statistically significant variation.
The analysis of the number of employed people, according to activity groups, for the moving quarter of June to August 2017, compared to the quarter of March to May 2017, showed an increase in the following categories: General Industry (1,9% or more, 227 people), Construction (2,9% or more, 191 people), Public administration, defense, social security, education, human health and social services (2,7% or more, 414 people) and Other services (3,0% or more, 132 people). The other groups did not show statistically significant variation.
Compared to the June-August 2016 quarter, a reduction was observed in the following sectors: Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fishing and Aquaculture (-6,8% or 627 fewer people) and Construction (-4,9% or 353 fewer people). Increases were observed in the following sectors: General Industry (3,2% or 365 more people), Transportation, Storage and Mail (3,9% or 174 more people), Accommodation and Food Services (13,2% or 603 more people), Information, Communication and Financial, Real Estate, Professional and Administrative Activities (3,2% or 310 more people), and Other Services (8,6% or 359 more people). The remaining sectors did not show statistically significant variation.
The average real income usually received from all jobs by employed people was estimated at R$ 2.105 in the June-August 2017 quarter, remaining stable compared to the March-May 2017 quarter (R$ 2.116). The figure also remained stable compared to the same quarter of the previous year (R$ 2.066).
Average real income showed a positive variation compared to the same quarter of the previous year (June to August 2016), only for the category of employees in the private sector with formal employment contracts, 3,0%, remaining stable for the other job categories. In relation to the previous quarter (March to May 2017), stability was recorded for all job positions.
Compared to the March-May 2017 quarter, the average real usual income did not show a statistically significant variation in average income across activity groups. Compared to the June-August 2016 quarter, the activity group (Agriculture, livestock, forestry, fishing and aquaculture) showed an increase in average income of 9,4%, while the other groups did not show a statistically significant variation.
The total real income usually received from all jobs by employed individuals was estimated at R$ 186,7 billion for the moving quarter of June to August 2017, and when compared to the moving quarter of March to May 2017, it did not show a statistically significant variation. It also remained stable compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
