247 - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), reaffirmed this Monday (20), in São Paulo, his support for increasing the ethanol blend in gasoline. The percentage, which was recently increased from 27% to 30%, could reach 35% in the coming years.

"Today we already have a 30% blend of gasoline with ethanol, and we will fight and strive to advance to 35% in the blend, which will further strengthen the biofuel industry in our country. The Chamber will remain vigilant in strengthening the sector amidst the challenges that arise," stated Motta, according to the report. CNN Brazil.

Progress on the "Fuel of the Future" program

The increase in ethanol's share was made possible after the approval of the "Fuel of the Future" program, which allows for raising the blend to 35%, provided that technical feasibility is proven. The decision that raised gasoline's blend to 30% was approved by the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) and came into effect in August of this year.

With this program, Brazil consolidates a new milestone in its energy policy, by valuing biofuels as a sustainable and strategic alternative in the national energy matrix.

Ethanol and the 50th Anniversary of ProÁlcool

Hugo Motta's statements were made during the DataAgro Conference on ethanol and sugar in São Paulo, an event that celebrated the 50th anniversary of ProÁlcool. The program, created in 1975 after the oil crisis, was responsible for boosting ethanol production and consumption in the country, becoming a watershed moment for the sugarcane and energy industry.

The congressman emphasized that Congress will continue to work towards measures that consolidate the presence of renewable sources in the energy matrix. According to him, such policies are fundamental to increasing Brazilian competitiveness and reducing emissions of polluting gases.
