247 - The federal government will ask Congress to authorize the collection of debts registered as outstanding federal tax liabilities through messaging apps, social media, and call centers. The bill, which is part of Jair Bolsonaro's pension reform package, is expected to be sent to the Chamber of Deputies next week.

The goal is to increase the recovery rate of funds registered as outstanding debt, currently estimated at around R$ 2 trillion, and reduce collection costs. According to the government, allowing debtors to renegotiate their debts more quickly would also reduce the interest rates charged.

"All the mechanisms that private companies use to collect debts, the PGFN [Attorney General's Office of the National Treasury] will also start using," said the Deputy Attorney General for Active Debt Management of the Union, Cristiano Neuenschwander, to the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper.

According to the bill, the PGFN (Brazilian Federal Attorney General's Office) may contract digital service companies to carry out collections through applications such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and call centers.
