247 The central government ended September with a primary deficit of R $ 14,5 billion, according to data released this Thursday (30) by National treasureThe result, although better than analysts predicted, represents a significant increase compared to the same period in 2024, when the negative balance was... R $ 5,17 billionThe information was published by Reuters.
According to the Treasury, net revenue — which discounts transfers to state and municipal governments — totaled R $ 172,37 billion, a real increase of only 0,6% compared to the previous year. Total expenses reached... R $ 186,87 billion, a rise of 5,7% compared to the same month of the previous year.
The performance reflects the government's difficulties in containing mandatory spending and maintaining fiscal balance in the face of an economic slowdown. Even so, the deficit was below market projections, which had expected a shortfall exceeding R$15 billion.
According to experts consulted by Reuters, the increase in expenses was influenced by higher disbursements in social security benefits and income transfer policies. Revenue performance, on the other hand, remained stable, reflecting the slowdown in economic activity in the third quarter.
