IMF lowers forecast for global economic growth.
I project that the world's GDP will grow by 4% in 2011.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has once again lowered its forecast for global economic growth, this time from 4,2% to 4%, according to a preview of the "World Economic Outlook" report, reported the Italian news agency "Ansa" on Wednesday (7).
The document will be released on September 20th. A month ago, the IMF released its latest report, forecasting global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 4,2% in 2011 and 4,3% in 2012. While the preliminary study predicts a drop to 4% this year, the forecast for 2012 is that GDP will reach 4,2%.
The IMF also made forecasts for the eurozone. The region's GDP is expected to grow by 1,7% in 2011 and 1,3% in 2012, contrary to the previously predicted rates of 1,9% and 1,4%.
For emerging countries, GDP growth forecasts were 6,6% and 6,4% in 2011 and 2012, and have fallen to 6,5% and 6,4%, respectively.
Regarding the global unemployment rate, "Ansa" reported that the report predicts a fall worldwide, except in the eurozone, where it should remain at around 10%. Also according to IMF forecasts, inflation should rise in all countries this year and fall again in 2012.
In the eurozone, the inflation rate will reach 2,5% this year, and fall to 1,5% next year. In the United States, inflation will rise from 1,6% to 3% by the end of 2011, before falling again to 1,3% in 2012.
