Positive Phenomenon

Brazilian electronics manufacturer sees a 26% increase in sales over two days. What explains these gains?

247_Positivo Informática has been attracting investors' attention in recent weeks. The company is the center of speculation suggesting that, within a short time, a buyer will arrive in Curitiba to make an offer to acquire the company's business. In two trading sessions, the electronics manufacturer has accumulated a 26% increase in value. On Friday the 3rd, the POSI3 stock closed up 14,71%. On Monday the 6th, gains reached 9,87%.

In the morning, Positivo sent a statement to the market to put an end to what was considered speculative activity. The company denied the merger or acquisition rumors and stated that it was unaware of any other reason that would justify the recent high performance on the stock exchange. "The rumors are unfounded, since there are no ongoing negotiations," Positivo wrote. Earlier this year, Lenovo and HP appeared as likely buyers, but the news did not materialize.

Investors, however, seem to have ignored the company's negative words. The trading volume of Positivo's shares on Monday was one of the highest in the stock market. The company closed the day with almost R$ 35 million, seven times higher than the average traded in the last 30 days. The buying and selling of shares, which totaled 5,3, is four times greater than that carried out in the same period.
