Higher ethanol prices put pressure on inflation.
The Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) ended November with a variation of 0,68% compared to 0,67% in the third preliminary reading of the month; the survey shows that four of the eight groups surveyed showed increases, with transportation standing out, driven by the rise in ethanol prices.

São Paulo – The Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) ended November with a variation of 0,68% compared to 0,67% in the third preliminary reading of the month. In the accumulated period since January, the index showed an increase of 4,91%, and over the last 12 months, 5,59%.
The survey conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Economics (Ibre) of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) shows that four of the eight groups surveyed showed progress, with transportation standing out (from 0,05% to 0,11%), driven by the increase in ethanol prices (from 0,39% to 0,93%).
The other groups that registered increases were: education, reading and recreation (from 0,38% to 0,55%); clothing (from 0,76% to 0,87%) and miscellaneous expenses (from 0,98% to 1,22%). In the opposite direction, the rate of price adjustments decreased in housing (from 0,85% to 0,82%); food (from 0,95% to 0,92%); communication (from 0,99% to 0,91%) and health and personal care (from 0,50% to 0,46%).
Among the items that most influenced the increase in the IPC-S are residential electricity rates (from 2,61% to 2,8%); meals in bars and restaurants (from 0,44% to 0,63%); residential rent (from 0,89% to 0,95%); airfare (from 11,92% to 18,88%) and cigarettes (from 1,65% to 2,34%).
