Embraer has signed a cooperation agreement with the American company Boeing to develop the KC-390, a project of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) to develop the largest aircraft produced by the Brazilian aerospace industry.

The project's objective, according to Embraer (the company chosen by the Brazilian Air Force to carry out the project), is to establish "new standards for medium-sized military transport aircraft in terms of performance, cargo capacity, flexibility, and operating costs."

The agreement provides for the sharing of technical knowledge and joint market analysis in order to define sales strategies.

"Boeing has extensive experience in military transport and in-flight refueling aircraft, as well as in-depth knowledge of potential customers for the KC-390, especially in markets that were not included in our original marketing plan," said Luiz Carlos Aguiar, President of Embraer Defense and Security.

"This agreement will reinforce the KC-390's prominent position in the global military transport market," he added.

Boeing Defense, Space & Security President Dennis Muilenburg described Embraer as a "global leader in innovation" and said the agreement is a way to cooperate on the design of a "highly qualified" aircraft, offering Boeing's expertise in military transport aircraft.

"This collaboration combines Boeing's excellence in military transport aircraft with Embraer's KC-390 achievements, in order to further advance this highly capable aircraft," he said in a statement.

The cooperation on the KC-390 project is part of a broader agreement signed by Boeing and Embraer in April of this year, which includes cooperation in the development of safety and efficiency solutions for commercial aircraft, research and technology, and biofuels for aviation.
