Embraer announces agreement with union, but proposal will still be evaluated by workers.

“The Union does not agree with the proposal presented by Embraer. The company is fully capable of guaranteeing the salaries of all workers, even with the factory shut down. Nevertheless, we will take the proposal to a vote,” states union leader Herbert Claros.

247 - Embraer announced this Monday (13) an agreement with the Metalworkers Union of São José dos Campos to guarantee the maintenance of jobs during the new coronavirus pandemic. However, the proposal that foresees the temporary suspension of employment contracts for 60 days with a guarantee of employment will be submitted for approval by the workers this Tuesday (14).

The Metalworkers Union of São José dos Campos will take it to a vote this Tuesday (14), but says it is against the agreement, but that the final decision rests with the workers.

“The Union does not agree with the proposal presented by Embraer. The company is fully capable of guaranteeing the salaries of all workers, even with the factory shut down. Nevertheless, we will take the proposal to a vote. Here at the Union, the workers decide,” states director Herbert Claros.

The voting will be digital, via a link that will be available on the Union's website, providing access to the virtual assembly. The system was developed so that only Embraer workers have access and can vote only once, guaranteeing absolute secrecy.

According to the Union, the proposal foresees the temporary suspension of employment contracts for 60 days, with a reduction in salaries according to salary bracket, as follows: 82,5% of net salary for workers with a current gross salary of up to R$ 3.000,00; 75% of net salary for workers with a current gross salary between R$ 3.000,01 and R$ 5.000,00; 67,5% of net salary for workers with a current gross salary between R$ 5.000,01 and R$ 12.000,00; 63,75% of the net salary for workers with a current gross salary above R$ 12.000,01.

The union points out that Embraer broke off negotiations on Monday, but backed down and requested the reopening of talks. In the afternoon, the company and the union met again.

"One of the reasons for the rupture was Embraer's insistence on keeping more than a thousand workers active in the São José dos Campos units, despite the pandemic. Even with the Union's rejection, the company maintained this point in the final proposal," the Union highlights in a statement on its website.

The union also states that it will seek out the State Government and the City Hall of São José dos Campos to demand that Embraer implement social isolation measures.
