The Savings Report was released by the Central Bank this Friday (7).
This is a common situation. January is usually the month when Brazilians withdraw the most money from their savings accounts.
Last month, account holders withdrew R$ 353 billion, compared to R$ 326 billion deposited.
With this, the current total balance in savings accounts fell to R$ 1,011 trillion.
In the Brazilian Savings and Loan System, which uses savings funds for real estate financing, the reduction was R$ 20 billion in January. Now, the balance is R$ 757 billion.
And rural savings decreased by another R$ 6 billion, ending the month with R$ 254 billion.
