The economy will receive an injection of R$ 143 billion with the 13th-month salary payment.

This amount represents approximately 3% of the country's GDP and will be paid to more than 82 million Brazilians, according to calculations by Dieese (Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies), a number 2,9% higher than that calculated for 2012.

247 - By the end of this year, approximately R$ 143 billion is expected to be injected into the Brazilian economy as 13th-month salary payments, according to calculations by Dieese (Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies).

The amount represents approximately 3% of the country's GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and will be paid to more than 82 million Brazilians. The organization estimates that, on average, workers will receive a 13th-month salary of R$ 1.740. These funds will be paid to workers in the formal market, including domestic employees, to Social Security beneficiaries, and to retirees and pension beneficiaries of the federal and state governments.

Of all Brazilians who are due to receive the 13th-month salary, the majority are formal workers, approximately 50,6 million people, or 61,4% of the total. In second place are retirees or pensioners of the Social Security system, who represent 37,4% of all those who will receive the benefit (30,76 million). The number of people who will receive the 13th-month salary this year is about 2,9% higher than that calculated for 2012.

It is estimated that more than 2 million people will start receiving the benefit, either because they have applied for retirement or pension, because they have entered the job market, or because they have formalized their employment. Last year, Dieese estimated that R$ 131 billion would enter the economy as 13th-month salary payments in 2012. Compared to this year, there was a growth of 9,8%.
