SAO PAULO (Reuters) - The dollar closed Friday slightly lower against the real, in a session with relatively little news in Brazil and abroad, where the US currency also saw slight declines in the late afternoon against most other currencies.

The spot dollar closed down 0,27%, at R$5,3347 for sale. Over the week, the currency fell 0,83%.

At 17:05 PM, the December dollar futures contract -- currently the most traded in Brazil -- was down 0,32% on the B3 exchange, at R$5,3610.

Earlier in the day, China reported that its exports decreased by 1,1% in October, reversing the 8,3% increase recorded in September and falling short of the 3,0% growth forecast in a Reuters poll.

Amid trade tensions, Chinese exports to the US fell 25,17% year-on-year, while exports to the European Union and Southeast Asian economies grew by only 0,9% and 11,0%, respectively.

In Brazil, the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) reported earlier today that the General Price Index-Domestic Availability (IGP-DI) fell 0,03% in October, compared to an increase of 0,36% in the previous month, a smaller drop than the market agents' expectation, according to a Reuters poll, of a 0,22% deflation. With the October result, the IGP-DI accumulates a 1,31% drop for the year and a 0,73% increase over 12 months.

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported that the Producer Price Index (PPI) fell 0,25% in September compared to August, marking the eighth consecutive deflation in the industrial sector. Year-to-date, the indicator – which measures price variations at the "factory gate," that is, excluding taxes and freight – has accumulated a 3,87% drop, with a 0,40% contraction over 12 months.

Neither the data from China nor the figures for the Brazilian economy had an impact on prices in Brazil, which remained within narrow margins throughout the day.

After reaching an intraday high of R$5,3674 (+0,34%) at 10:02 AM, the spot dollar hit a low of R$5,3349 (-0,27%) at 16:45 PM. The variation from the high to the low was only -0,61%.

Abroad, at 17:14 PM, the dollar index -- which measures the performance of the US currency against a basket of six currencies -- was down 0,12%, at 99,565.
