A positive day for the Brazilian stock market: up 2,2%

Ibovespa starts the week with gains, accumulating 12,2% in the last seven days; Marfrig, despite the loss, jumps 6,6%.

247 – Stock markets around the world experienced a euphoric Monday. No index closed lower, and gains were significant. The Ibovespa gained 2,2%, to 54.651 points, and has accumulated 12,2% gains in the last seven trading sessions. In August, however, the Brazilian stock market is still down 7,1%.

The pulp and paper company Fibria was the top performer of the day, gaining 7,3%. The meatpacking company Marfrig, which reported its quarterly results (with a loss), followed closely behind with a 6,6% increase (read the report). hereAnd Lojas Renner rose 6,2%.

Among the decliners, the two Usiminas stocks (USIM3 and USIM5) fell 6,6% and 4,1%, respectively, followed by Natura, down 1,3%.

After Europe and Brazil, the US also closed the day with strong gains. The Dow Jones and Nasdaq each rose 1,9%. And the S&P 500 had the same result as the Brazilian stock exchange: 2,2%.

LATE AFTERNOON - European stock markets kicked off the week with gains. France stood out with a 0,8% increase; Spain, England, and Germany accumulated gains of 0,7%, 0,5%, and 0,4%, respectively. This performance shows that markets have stabilized after facing difficult days last week. However, uncertainties in the US and some decisions in the European market should trigger a rally this week.

The Ibovespa reduced its gains to 1,9% at 15:45 PM. This is 0,5 percentage points less than the increase accumulated in the early afternoon.

In the US, the Dow Jones, S&P 500, and Nasdaq, the three main American indices, are trading more than 1% higher today.

MID-AFTERNOON - The Ibovespa extended its gains in the mid-afternoon this Monday: 2,4% at 14:15 PM. The top performers were Fibria, Duratex, and Telesp. Among the decliners, Usiminas accumulated the worst performance. European and American stock markets also registered good results.

AFTERNOON - Global stock markets started the week in a positive mood. After Asian markets closed with gains, Europe, Brazil, and the US opened trading with increases. In European markets, gains are around 0,5%, with Paris standing out (0,8%). In the US, gains are close to 1%. And in Brazil, the Ibovespa stands out with a 2% increase at 12:40 PM. The day is so positive that only three stocks are down: Usiminas, Natura, and Cielo. The top gainers are Duratex, Fibria, and Telesp.

PRE-OPENING - On the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, European financial markets are following the optimism raised by Asian stock exchanges. Furthermore, investors are anxiously awaiting the meeting between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, announced for Tuesday. They are expected to discuss the reform of the Eurozone's governance, a sensitive issue for the markets. The Franco-German couple promises to make joint proposals by the end of the summer. Investors are calling for the creation of "Eurobonds," which would stipulate the sharing of public debt in the Eurozone. But Germany seems to oppose this. The discussions will be closely followed on both sides of the Atlantic.

Meanwhile, this morning, the Paris Stock Exchange opened 1,07% higher at 3.249,14. In London, the FTSE-100 opened 0,45% higher, and in Frankfurt, the DAX started 1,3% higher, above 6000 points. The Swiss stock exchange began the week up 2,24%, and Madrid up 0,87%. The Milan, Lisbon, and Athens stock exchanges are closed this Monday due to the public holiday.

This growth in Europe reflects the performance of Wall Street on Friday and Asian markets this morning. In Japan, the Nikkei closed up 1,37%, Hong Kong rose almost 3%, and Shanghai climbed 1,21%.
