"It should have been approved," says Jorge Viana regarding oil exploration on the Equatorial Margin.
According to the official, the exploitation of the resource in the region is "inevitable".
247 - The president of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex Brasil), Jorge Viana, advocated for greater agility from Ibama (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) in issuing authorization for Petrobras' research on potential oil exploration in the Equatorial Margin in Amapá. According to the director, exploration of the resource in the Equatorial Margin is "inevitable."
“We are already exploring for oil, including in deep waters, which is high-risk, but there has never been an accident. Who do you have on the other side exploring? The largest oil companies in the world. The research should have already been approved,” said Viana during his participation in the Roda Viva program. “Oil is the most important product of Brazil's exports, the one that puts the most money into the Treasury.”
The Equatorial Margin comprises the following states: Amapá, Ceará, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Maranhão, and Pará. Petrobras plans to invest US$3 billion in the region by 2028. The company's business plan projects the drilling of 16 wells.
