Unemployment is expected to end 2013 at a historic low.

The forecast is based on the anticipated unemployment rate for December, calculated by Fipe using real-time data, and considered a preview of the IBGE's Monthly Employment Survey; the rate was estimated at 4,4% and, if confirmed, will be the lowest ever recorded by the Institute; the number will also confirm the downward trend in unemployment, since the lowest historical level was recorded in the last month of 2012 and in November of this year, 0,2% higher (4,6%); in her end-of-year address this Sunday, President Dilma Rousseff celebrated the "lowest unemployment rate in history" and stated that Brazilians will not suffer from this risk in 2014.

247 - Unemployment in Brazil is expected to end 2013 at its lowest level in history. This forecast is based on the anticipated unemployment rate for December, estimated at 4,4%, which, if confirmed, will be the lowest ever recorded by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics). The index will also confirm the downward trend in unemployment, since in the last month of 2012 it was 0,2% higher (4,6%), according to the Brazilian Institute's report.

The anticipated unemployment rate estimate is calculated by Fipe (Economic Research Institute Foundation) using information available online in real time – eliminating the need to wait weeks or months for research institutes to release official, outdated indicators – and using data from the company Catho. The study is considered a preview of the Monthly Employment Survey (PME) by IBGE.

Fipe's research also reveals other positive figures: it concludes that the good performance of the job market can also be seen in the real increase (above inflation) in advertised salaries: the Catho-Fipe Index of Offered Salaries points to an increase of 11,2% in the last 12 months, a variation higher than that recorded in November, of 7,2%, and the fourth consecutive month of increase in the annual variation.

In November, the unemployment rate in Brazil had already fallen to its lowest level in history: 4,6%, the same as in December 2012. The index, released on the 19th in the IBGE's Monthly Employment Survey, is also lower than that recorded in November 2012 (4,9%). In October of this year, the index was 5,2%. The number of unemployed people (1,1 million) fell by 10,9% compared to October.

In her year-end address broadcast on national radio and television on Sunday night, President Dilma Rousseff celebrated the "lowest unemployment rate in history" and stated that Brazilians will not face this risk in 2014. "Enter 2014 with the certainty that your standard of living will be even better than it is today, without the risk of unemployment, with optimism," declared Dilma (see video). here).
