Unemployment falls to 4,6%, the lowest rate in history.

The unemployment rate recorded in November is the lowest in the IBGE's historical series, which began in 2002; the index, which fell below the 5,2% recorded in October, had last been reached in December 2012; full employment is one of President Dilma Rousseff's reelection campaign promises; the pre-election year for the Workers' Party candidate also shows better performance than that of her two predecessors, Lula and FHC, in this regard.

247 - One of President Dilma Rousseff's main campaign promises in her 2014 reelection campaign, the unemployment rate hit a new record in November 2013. The rate fell to 4,6%, reaching the lowest percentage in the IBGE's historical series, which began in 2002, according to data released this Thursday, the 19th.

The topic is frequently highlighted in the president's speeches as a victory for the government. "Brazil today has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world," says Dilma, during her travels around the country. In April of this year, in Rio Grande do Sul, she even responded to suggestions from economic analysts who advocated for a slowdown in the job market.

"There are many people out there saying that we have to reduce employment. 'Oh, we have to create unemployment.' Many people are saying this, well, not many, it's few, but it makes a lot of noise. These people are mistaken," stated Dilma Rousseff at the time. The president's pre-election year is also better than those of Lula and FHC in this respect (see...). here).

Rio de Janeiro – The unemployment rate in the country closed the month of November at 4,6%. The data was released today (19) in the Monthly Employment Survey (PME) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). This is the lowest rate since December 2012, which was also 4,6%. The index is lower than that recorded in November 2012. In October of this year, the rate was 5,2%.

"This reduction in unemployment is due to an increase in inactivity. There has been no increase in the number of jobs. Part of this population may be people who have already secured employment for December, but are not yet working. Another portion may be due to discouragement [thinking they won't be able to find work]," said the manager of Labor and Income at IBGE, Cimar Azeredo.

The number of unemployed people (1,1 million) fell by 10,9% compared to October, but remained stable compared to November 2012. The number of employed people (23,3 million) remained stable in both comparisons.

The number of workers with formal employment contracts in the private sector (11,8 million) remained stable compared to October of this year, but grew by 3,1% compared to November of last year.

Among professional categories, all maintained practically the same number of jobs as in October. Compared to November of last year, the behavior was similar for most categories, with the exception of industry, which had a drop of 3,9% (145 fewer jobs), and domestic services, with a reduction of 12,2% (186 fewer jobs).
