Reuters Brazilian consumer confidence rose again in July, after falling the previous month, driven by improvements in both the indicator of the current situation and the measure of expectations for the coming months, according to data from the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) released this Friday.

The FGV Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) rose 0,8 points in the month, to 86,7 points.

"After falling in the previous month, consumer confidence resumed its upward trajectory in July, which began in March of this year. The modest increase in the ICC reflected a moderate improvement in assessments of the present and the future," said Anna Carolina Gouveia, an economist at FGV IBRE, in a statement.

The data showed that the Current Situation Index (ISA) rose 0,5 points to 83,4 points in July.

The Expectations Index (IE) showed a positive variation of 0,7 points, reaching 89,4 points in July.

Among the factors that assess the current situation, the indicator of the current local economic situation rose by 0,7 points to 94,3 points, while the measure of the current financial situation of the family increased by 0,3 points to 72,8 points.

In the areas measuring expectations for the coming months, the result was driven by a 10,8-point gain in the indicator of expected purchases of durable goods, to 86,9 points in July, the highest level since December 2024 (91,0 points).

Conversely, there were sharp declines in the indicators of future local economic situation and future family financial situation, with losses of 2,4 and 6,2 points, respectively, to 100,5 and 82,4 points.

Among the income brackets, the group earning up to R$2.100,00 per month saw a jump of 7,4 points in confidence, reaching 81,7 points, boosting the overall result for July.
