247 - Petrobras' compliance department approved on Tuesday (24) the name of Senator Jean Paul Prates (PT-RN) for the company's presidency. The parliamentarian could assume the position this week. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) formalized the nomination on December 30.

The English word "compliance" means "conformity" in Portuguese. In the context of Petrobras, the expression means that the PT-RN parliamentarian meets the oil company's rules and requirements to assume the position. After his name is approved by the compliance department, the company's board will hold a vote scheduled for next Thursday (26).

Currently, the state-owned company is being led on an interim basis by João Henrique Rittershaussen, who was previously Executive Director of Production Development. He took over after Caio Paes de Andrade stepped down this month.

Andrade was nominated to the presidency of Petrobras in June 2022 by the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), but left the company because he was appointed to the position of Secretary of Management and Digital Government in the state of São Paulo, during the term of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos).
