With credit on the rise, Caixa reports a profit of R$ 6,1 billion.

Profit recorded in 2012 is 17,1% higher than in 2011; the result was driven by its loan portfolio, which grew 42% in the last 12 months.

São Paulo – The accumulated net profit obtained by Caixa Econômica Federal in 2012 reached R$ 6,1 billion, 17,1% more than in 2011. This result was driven by its loan portfolio, which grew 42% in the last 12 months, ending the year with a balance of R$ 353,7 billion.

The housing portfolio had a balance of R$ 205,8 billion in December 2012, an increase of 34,6% compared to the same period in 2011. Real estate contracting reached R$ 106,7 billion, a growth of 33,3% compared to the same period in 2011. Of this total, R$ 46,7 billion came from savings resources and R$ 38,7 billion from lines of credit using the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS).

For the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program, from its launch in 2009 until the end of 2012, Caixa contracted 2,1 million new homes, totaling R$ 134,5 billion. More than 1 million housing units have already been delivered to beneficiaries.

In 2012, the bank injected approximately R$ 530 billion into the economy, relating to credit contracts, government programs, personnel remuneration, as well as taxes and social charges destined for the federal, state, and municipal governments.
