Five states are already planning privatizations to pay off their debt to the federal government.

The states of Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Espírito Santo, Pará, and São Paulo are already studying the privatization of state-owned companies, with the support of BNDES (Brazilian Development Bank), as part of the renegotiation of state debts with the federal government; in addition to Cedae (Rio de Janeiro's water and sewage company), companies such as Cesan (a sanitation company in Espírito Santo) and Sulgás and CEEE (energy companies in Rio Grande do Sul) could be privatized; Minas Gerais is also considering selling assets.

247 – At least five states are already planning privatizations to pay off debt to the federal government. Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Espírito Santo, Pará, and São Paulo are studying the privatization of state-owned companies, with the support of BNDES (Brazilian Development Bank), as part of the renegotiation of debts with the interim government of Michel Temer.

Besides the Rio de Janeiro State Water and Sewage Company (Cedae), companies like Cesan, a sanitation company from Espírito Santo, and Sulgás and CEEE, energy companies from Rio Grande do Sul, could be privatized. Minas Gerais is also considering selling assets.

According to a report by Martha Beck of Globo, the State Bank of Rio Grande do Sul (Banrisul) was also included in privatization plans at the beginning of the year, when the states were still negotiating the extension of debts with Dilma Rousseff's economic team, but now those chances have diminished.
