247 - The national association of automakers (Anfavea) reported that last year ended with 8.458 100% electric cars, a 195,7% increase over 2021. BYD, which produces 100% electric buses in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo (SP), is studying the best location for its first national passenger car factory. The most likely location is the deactivated industrial complex belonging to Ford, in Camaçari (BA). Negotiations are advanced, but the agreement has not yet been confirmed by the companies. The production of electric cars is a global strategy and aims to meet standards to reduce the emission of polluting gases.

According to information published this Friday (24) by Folha de S.Paulo newspaperOne of the models being considered for national production is the Yuan EV Plus, which is on sale for R$ 270. That's R$ 20 more than the price of a Jeep Compass Trailhawk, which is diesel-powered and similar in size to the Chinese SUV.

GWM will begin national production of electric cars in 2024. The first vehicle assembled in Iracemápolis, in the interior of São Paulo state, will be a mid-size pickup truck from the Proer line, which will have a hybrid flex-fuel engine. The R$ 10 billion investment includes the manufacture of cars that only consume electricity. No date has been announced for the launch of these options.

The global trend is for prices to decrease as economies of scale are achieved, investments are amortized, and the supply of semiconductors becomes more regular.

Brazil's potential

According to Luiz Eduardo Martins, GM South America's vehicle engineering manager, "an electric car is even simpler to drive than a conventional automatic car."

According to Gláucia Roveri, GM's manager of infrastructure development for electric vehicles, "Brazil has the potential to be a hub for the production of technologies and vehicles, considering the suitable conditions we have here, such as raw materials for battery production, qualified engineering, a well-developed industrial park, and a large consumer market."
