Bolsonaro wants General Luna e Silva to resign as president of Petrobras.
The General decided to maintain the pricing policy implemented after the 2016 coup, which has impoverished Brazil and Brazilians.
247 - Jair Bolsonaro hopes that the current president of Petrobras, Joaquim Silva e Luna, will resign from his position. The reason is the recent fuel price hike, which could definitively undermine his chances of reelection, according to sources. reports journalist Thaís ArbexFrom CNN: "The pressure exerted by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on Petrobras, with a high level of criticism of the readjustment announced by the company on Thursday (10), is seen within the government as a strategy to get General Joaquim Silva e Luna to resign from the company's leadership. Bolsonaro's aides told CNN, on condition of anonymity, that the head of the Planalto Palace has been keen to demonstrate his dissatisfaction with the current management of the state-owned company and that, given the belligerent climate, the best course of action would be for Silva e Luna himself to take the initiative to leave the presidency of the state-owned company," writes the journalist.
Bolsonaro appointed the general to the position in February 2021, who decided to maintain the pricing policy implemented at the state-owned company shortly after the 2016 coup against former President Dilma Rousseff. This pricing policy dollarized fuel prices in Brazil and was implemented by Pedro Parente, appointed by Fernando Henrique Cardoso, to head Petrobras during Michel Temer's coup government. Since then, drivers, truckers, and housewives have been transferring their income to Petrobras' private shareholders, who will receive R$ 101 billion in dividends this year alone. Transferring oil revenue from Brazilian society to Petrobras' international shareholders was one of the main reasons for the 2016 coup.
