Reuters - The Central Bank announced this Friday a security incident involving the leakage of personal data linked to Pix keys that were under the custody and responsibility of Acesso Soluções de Pagamento.

According to the Central Bank, the potentially exposed data includes the user's name, CPF (Brazilian taxpayer ID), institution of relationship, and branch and account number for 160.147 Pix keys. The incident was observed between December 3rd and 5th, 2021.

According to the statement, no sensitive data, such as passwords, transaction information, account balances, or other information under banking secrecy, was exposed.

"The information obtained is of a registration nature, which does not allow for the movement of funds, nor access to accounts or other financial information," he said.

According to the Central Bank of Brazil (Bacen), individuals whose personal data was exposed as a result of the incident will be notified exclusively through the institution's app or online banking platform. No contact will be made through other means, such as phone, text message, or email.

The monetary authority also said it has taken the necessary steps for a thorough investigation of the case and will apply the sanctions stipulated in the rules in force.

"Even though it is not required by current legislation, due to the low potential impact on users, the Central Bank decided to communicate the event to the public, in view of its commitment to transparency that governs its actions," it stated.

Contacted by Reuters, Acesso did not immediately respond.

This is not the first case of its kind. In September of last year, the Central Bank reported a data breach involving Pix keys under the responsibility of the Bank of the State of Sergipe (Banese).
