Flávia Albuquerque, reporter for Agência Brasil - Consumers who have debts on credit cards, overdrafts, payroll loans, and other types of credit from banks and financial institutions and who wish to negotiate these debts have until the 30th of this month to participate in the Negotiation and Financial Guidance Campaign.

More than 160 institutions are participating in the initiative, in addition to partners such as the Central Bank, the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), and Procons (consumer protection agencies). Financing for vehicles, motorcycles, and real estate is not included in the campaign.

Negotiations can be conducted directly with participating institutions through their official channels or via the ConsumidorGovBr portal, a free public service that connects consumers and businesses to find solutions for consumer disputes.

To request negotiation through the platform, consumers must have a Silver or Gold account on the Gov.br app. Debts can be negotiated as long as they are overdue and do not have assets given as collateral, or are time-barred.

According to Febraban, the initiative is an opportunity to negotiate debts under special conditions, such as installment plans, discounts on the total debt amount, or reduced interest rates for refinancing.

It will also be possible to request in-person support from the Procons that have joined the joint effort to negotiate directly through the banks' digital channels.

"For people who are heavily indebted, the negotiation process is different, as it requires a greater understanding of the debts and support from Procon (consumer protection agency) to create a payment plan," the organization explains.

All information about the debt negotiation campaign, as well as a complete list of participating institutions and the channels offered by banks for debt negotiation, is available on the Meu Bolso em Dia Febraban platform. To join the campaign, you can directly contact your bank's digital channel.

Another way to participate is to register on the website www.consumidor.gov.br, log in, select the institution you wish to negotiate with, and follow the instructions. The company has up to ten days to analyze and respond to your request.

To check if they have any outstanding debts, consumers can access an updated report maintained by the Central Bank, called Registrato.

If the debt is not with a financial institution, it is possible to contact Serasa, which also promotes the Serasa Clean Name Fair, through which consumers have the opportunity to settle overdue non-bank debts, with discounts, incurred from retail companies, telecommunications companies, energy concessionaires, sanitation companies, universities and financial institutions.

Another possibility is to negotiate overdue debts at participating post office branches.
