Central Bank says economic activity grows 0,69%
Compared to November 2020, the indicator shows an increase of 0,43%; and in the accumulated year (January to November 2021) the variation was 4,59%.
Brazil Agency - The Economic Activity Index (IBC-Br), recorded in November 2021, showed an increase of 0,69% compared to October, a percentage already seasonally adjusted to compensate for any differences between the periods, such as a greater number of holidays or weekends.
The data, a kind of preview of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP, the sum of all goods and services produced in the country) was released today (17), in Brasília, by the Central Bank. Despite the increase, the quarter still shows a negative number (-0,79%), due to a previous sequence of declines, according to the numbers presented by the monetary authority.
Compared to November 2020, when the effects of the pandemic were more pronounced, the indicator shows an increase of 0,43%; and in the accumulated year (January to November 2021) the observed variation, without seasonal adjustment, was 4,59%. In the accumulated 12 months, November shows an increase of 4,30%.
Selic rate and exchange rate
The IBC-Br incorporates information on the activity level of the three sectors of the economy: industry, commerce and services, and agriculture, in addition to the volume of taxes. The index is a way to assess the evolution of Brazilian economic activity and helps the Central Bank make decisions about the basic interest rate, the Selic, currently set at 9,25% per year.
The market forecast for the benchmark interest rate, the Selic, at the end of 2022 is 11,75% per year, according to a bulletin released by the Central Bank earlier this month.
