The Central Bank of Brazil (BC) has launched a new website for those wishing to check if they have unclaimed money in bank accounts. There are R$ 8 billion waiting to be retrieved.

The Central Bank announced that the money left unattended in banks will be returned starting March 7th. According to the Central Bank, customers are owed approximately R$ 8 billion.

247 - The Central Bank announced this Monday (7) that a website will be created for people to check on money left in banks. According to the institution, the new website will be operational next Monday (14). The Central Bank informed that the amounts left in banks will only be returned from March 7th. In this first phase of the service, approximately R$ 3,9 billion is to be returned to 24 million individuals and legal entities. In total, the Central Bank estimated that customers are due to receive around R$ 8 billion. Of this total, R$ 900 has already been recovered.  

The remaining amount to be redeemed throughout 2022 is a consequence of current or savings accounts closed with available balances; capital shares and distribution of net surpluses to beneficiaries and participants of credit cooperatives, according to the... G1 portal.

There are also fees and installments or obligations related to credit operations that were improperly charged, provided that the refund is stipulated in a Commitment Agreement signed by the bank with the Central Bank.

The amounts to be redeemed also include unclaimed funds related to closed consortium groups.

The website was made available on January 24th, but the following day, the Central Bank took the tool offline because the system could not handle the large volume of traffic.

The new address for inquiries regarding forgotten values ​​is valorareceber.bcb.gov.br

To access the query system, you need to register on the Acesso website. (https://sso.acesso.gov.br) or through the Gov.br app

According to the bank, only after accessing the system and only if requesting a withdrawal without providing a Pix key, will the chosen financial institution contact you to carry out the transfer.

Beware of potential scams.

The Central Bank issued warnings about potential scam attempts. The only website for consulting the Accounts Receivable System (SVR) and requesting funds is valoresareceber.bcb.gov.br.

The institution stated that it does not send links and no one You are authorized to contact the person on behalf of the Central Bank or the Accounts Receivable System.

Citizens should also not make any payments to access the funds – that would be a scam.
