Armínio Fraga is being considered to replace Strauss-Kahn.

The former president of the Central Bank, along with representatives from China, Russia, and Türkiye, is being considered to replace Dominique Strauss-Kahn at the IMF.

Lu Miranda_247 - Former Central Bank president Armínio Fraga, currently chairman of the board of BM&FBovespa and partner at Gávea Investimentos, is one of the names being considered to replace the managing director of the IMF, the International Monetary Fund, following this weekend's sex scandal in the United States. Besides Fraga, representatives from China, Russia, and Turkey are among the most discussed names in the financial market. Economist Miguel Daoud commented on the rumors and recalled that, since the creation of the organization in 1944 in Bretton Woods, USA, there has been an agreement that the presidency of the fund should always be held by a European and that of the World Bank by an American. "There is an impossibility of Gordon Brown assuming the position because he does not have the support of the current British Prime Minister. Therefore, names are being discussed in other countries, including emerging ones like Brazil," says Daoud.

The economist recalls the delicate moment that stock markets are going through, with debts in Eurozone countries and the negative effect of a scandal involving a high-ranking official. "Unfortunately, the world is going through a complicated phase, with Europe facing serious problems from the 2008 crisis, and the market awaiting solutions from the IMF and the European Central Bank to avoid a worsening of this scenario. At least the euro, which had been weakened by the scandal, recovered, and the event did not significantly affect the European currency," he states.

However, stock markets in the old continent closed with losses, slightly smaller than those recorded in the morning. In Paris, the CAC-40 index ended down 0,72%. In Frankfurt, the Xetra-DAX index closed down 0,21%. In London, the FTSE 100 index closed down 0,04%.

In New York, the indexes were showing losses, and the same was true in Brazil. Around 16:30 PM, the Ibovespa was down 0,82% at 62.719 points. The commercial dollar was down 0,37% at R$ 1,631.

Among the biggest losses were Cosan (CSAN3) with a drop of 4,11%, Hypermarcas (HYPE3) down 4,09%, Minerva (MRVE3) with a devaluation of 3,78%, Cyrela (CYRE3) down 3,63%, and Rossi Residencial (RSID3) with a loss of 3,29%.

The biggest gains on the stock exchange were seen in LLX (LLXL3) up 3,67%, Petrobras ON (PETR3) with a gain of 2,46%, Ultrapar (UGPA4) with an increase of 2,14%, Petrobras PN (PETR4) with a gain of 1,87%, and Telemar (TNLP3) with an increase of 1,86%.
