SÃO PAULO - After the death of Emilio Botín at age 79, Santander appointed his daughter, Ana Patricia Botín, as chairwoman of the Spanish bank on Wednesday afternoon (10), international agencies highlight.

According to the bank, Ana is the best choice to lead the bank, and the decision to make her president of the institution was unanimously approved by the Board.

At the Board of Directors meeting, Ana indicated that "at this very difficult time for me and my family, I thank the Board for their trust and I fully commit to these new responsibilities." "During the years I worked at the Santander Group in different countries, I have witnessed the enormous quality and dedication of all our teams. We will continue working with total determination to keep building a better Banco Santander every day for our clients, employees and shareholders," she stated, according to the Spanish newspaper El Economista.

Ana Patricia Botín was born in 1960 at Santander and holds a degree in Economics. She was appointed as a board member of the bank on February 4, 1989, and re-elected in 1991, 1994, 2000, 2003, 2006, and 2014. Currently 54 years old, Ana Patricia Botín joined the family bank in 1989, after seven years working at JP Morgan. She was president of Banesto between 2022 and 2010, at which time she took over the reins of Santander in the United Kingdom.
