SÃO PAULO - The third quarter earnings season continues to be busy this Thursday (31). In the spotlight, Ambev (AMBV4The largest beverage company in Latin America reported a 7,9 percent drop in net profit in the third quarter compared to the same period in 2012, totaling 2,280 billion reais, the company said on Thursday, despite cash generation measured by earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rising 11% year-on-year to R$ 4,192 billion.
The average analyst expectation, according to Reuters, indicated a 6,4% growth in third-quarter net profit, to R$ 2,7 billion, and an 8,6% increase in EBITDA, to R$ 4,1 billion.

Embraer sees profit fall 10,5% in the quarter.
Embraer (EMBR3) saw its net profit attributable to shareholders fall 10,48% to R$ 118,7 million in the third quarter, compared to R$ 132,6 million in the same period last year.
The aircraft manufacturer reported a 3,44% increase in net revenue, rising from R$2,845 billion to R$2,943 billion. According to the company, this growth is mainly due to the approximately 12% appreciation of the dollar between July and September, even with a lower number of deliveries in the commercial aviation segment. The company delivered 19 commercial and 25 executive aircraft, reaching a cumulative total of 58 commercial and 66 executive aircraft during the first nine months, compared to 83 commercial and 46 executive aircraft delivered during the first nine months of 2012.
Cash generation, measured by EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization), grew 5,44% to R$ 358,5 million. The EBITDA margin (EBITDA/Net Revenue) increased from 12,0% to 12,2% in the third quarter.
Energias do Brasil's profit skyrockets 1.819%
Energias do Brasil (ENBR3The company reported a net profit of 199,4 million reais in the third quarter, compared to 10,4 million reais a year earlier, the company said on Wednesday, a jump of 1.819 percent.
"Profit was impacted by the effects of the financial result, the drop of 5,4 million reais in minority shareholders' participation, and the Income Tax (IR) and social contribution for the period," the company said.
EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) was R$631,6 million, compared to R$271,1 million in the third quarter of 2012, a year-on-year increase of 133 percent. Net operating revenue grew 9,2 percent year-on-year to R$1,65 billion, while non-manageable expenses fell 18 percent to R$823,9 million.
SulAmérica's profit grows 9,7% to R$ 117,1 million.
The insurance company SulAmérica (SULA11The company reported a net profit of 117,1 million reais in the third quarter, 9,7 percent higher year-on-year, benefiting from a reduction in claims.
The loss ratio was 75,7 percent, compared to 76 percent a year earlier, the company said. Insurance premiums grew 14,8 percent to 3,202 billion reais -- most of the results came from the health and dental segment, which totaled 2,207 billion reais.
On the other hand, administrative expenses rose 20,6 percent in the quarter, to 281,8 million reais, due to a higher volume of operations, said SulAmérica. Financial income fell 6,2 percent year-on-year to 131,7 million reais, but grew 62,4 percent compared to the second quarter, driven by higher interest rates.
Tecnisa reverses losses
The real estate developer Tecnisa (TCSA3) reversed its losses and recorded a net profit of 62 million reais in the third quarter, supported by improved financial results.
"The result marks a game-changer (...) The company has recovered from all the impacts it suffered last year," Tecnisa's CFO, Vasco Barcellos, told Reuters.
In the third quarter of 2012, Tecnisa had a loss of 56,4 million reais. With the reduction in debt leverage, Tecnisa reduced its financial expenses, which led to a positive financial result of 7,7 million reais, compared to the previous negative figure.
EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) was 85 million reais, compared to a negative result of 41,25 million reais a year earlier.
