247 - The Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC), Geraldo Alckmin, congratulated Brazilian companies for the record exports achieved in 2023, a result, according to him, of the "consistent trade policy of the Lula government".

According to Foreign Trade Secretariat of the MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade)In 2023, Brazil's trade balance reached a record surplus of US$98,8 billion, the highest since the beginning of the historical series in 1989. Brazilian exports reached a historic level in 2023, totaling US$339,7 billion, according to the data.

In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Alckmin shared a meme comparing Brazilian exports to the "300 Spartans." "Congratulations to the 28,5 Brazilian companies that exported in 2023 and contributed to Brazil achieving this record, generating jobs and income for our citizens, paying good salaries and employing skilled labor," wrote the vice-president and minister.

Not even the 300 Spartans could match Brazil's 339: in 2023, Brazil exported US$339,7 billion, 1,7% more than in 2022, the highest value in the historical series. In terms of volume, 803 million tons were shipped abroad, 8,7% more than in 2022. In a world where commodity prices fell, Brazil managed to export 10 times more than the world average, defying all projections. This was the result of a consistent trade policy by the Lula government, which prioritized traditional markets, such as China, to whom Brazil exported US$105 billion – another record amount in 2023 – as well as opening new markets, such as Indonesia, Mexico, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Algeria. My congratulations to the 28,5 Brazilian companies that exported in 2023 and contributed to Brazil achieving this record, generating jobs and income for our citizens, paying good salaries and employing skilled labor.
