Vale will be 'reprivatized' under the Bolsonaro government, says Salim Mattar.
Brazil's Special Secretary for Privatization, Salim Mattar, stated that the mining company Vale will be "reprivatized" under the Bolsonaro government. "Vale was privatized, right? No, Vale wasn't privatized, Vale is a state-owned company," he said. "Pension funds, sponsored by the state, control Vale. We are here to privatize, to reprivatize Vale," he added. He also compared the Brumadinho tragedy, which left at least 165 dead and 150 missing, to air disasters.

Mattar also reiterated that Vale should not be "demonized" for the Brumadinho tragedy, in which more than 165 people died and more than 150 are still missing after a dam belonging to the mining company collapsed on January 25th. He compared the case to air disasters.
"One or two planes crash every year, killing 120 or 130 people. Do we call for the company's board to resign, or do we demonize the company?" he questioned. "In Brumadinho, two planes crashed. How would an airline be treated this way, and how are we treating Vale?" he added.
