Global reactivated his social media account after two weeks offline and, in an interview with Carta Capital, said he cannot comment on the agreement made with Supreme Court Justice Gilmar Mendes, who sued him for defamation and slander after posts on Twitter; "I can't say much about it because my part of the agreement consists precisely in not speaking about him publicly anymore"; regarding his candidacy for federal deputy in 2014, Zé de Abreu assures that it is ruled out.

Zé returns to Twitter and says he is not a candidate.

247 - Brazilian actor José de Abreu has returned to his main political tool, Twitter, which he describes as "a drug." Zé, as he calls himself on the social network, "closed" his account for two weeks after reaching an agreement with Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Gilmar Mendes, who sued him for defamation and slander.

In an interview with Carta Capital, the actor said he could not comment on the reconciliation precisely because part of the agreement is not to speak about the minister in public anymore.

"We reached an agreement, but I can't say much about it because my part of the agreement is precisely not to speak about it publicly anymore. After the trial, I talked a lot with friends and family, and I decided to put away my weapons, so I closed my Twitter account."

Zé assures that he has returned to Twitter "more calmly" and also told Carta that he has decided not to run for federal deputy in 2014.

"I'm not going to run for office, I've already decided. I talked to a lot of people and I think it's best not to run, especially because I would have to leave Globo [TV network] and I need the salary, I pay two alimony payments to ex-wives, I help family members, people who ask for help online, animal rescuers..."

Below is the full text of interview.

Gilmar Mendes and leaving Twitter.

[The Supreme Court Justice opened a case against José de Abreu for slander, libel, and defamation due to a tweet insinuating that he had hired a spy arrested in the Federal Police's Monte Carlo operation. An agreement was reached on May 12th, and the case was withdrawn. The Justice had previously threatened to sue José on another occasion when the artist called him "corrupt."] "We reached an agreement, but I can't say much about it because my part of the agreement consists precisely of not speaking about it publicly anymore. After the lawsuit, I talked a lot with friends and family, and I decided to put down my weapons, so I closed my Twitter account."

Back to Twitter - drugs

"I came back to Twitter today (yesterday, Tuesday, May 21st)! I had suspended my account for a few weeks and decided to reactivate it. But I'll come back calmer, let's see if I can manage it... It did me good to be away from Twitter, I observed, but I wasn't exposed, arguing. It was good... it's an addiction like any other, a drug. But drugs aren't necessarily bad... we're here having a glass of wine, and it's nice, we're chatting, it goes well with the food, etc. And I never really liked Facebook, I think it's too family-oriented, too many pictures of kids... too light. I'm more into heavy stuff, more into Twitter."

Network patrol

"There are some Twitter users who insult me daily, often with very harsh things. They've called me a scoundrel, homophobic, a son of a bitch... they said my wife goes to Ipanema to sleep with surfers... What the hell is that? They keep monitoring me, patrolling me, which has nothing to do with the logic of the network itself. Twitter is like a bird's whistle, something ephemeral, that could even disappear after a few hours. It's not something meant to last, to be printed, taken out of context, and registered in a notary's office. It's a pain that they're always after me. Anything I post is exposed everywhere... there's a law student who sends my tweets to the Attorney General's Office every week and asks for action. Can you believe it? There are two other crazy people who made a blog just for that, to expose my tweets with comments! Man, they're cyber snitches!" [laughs]

Lawsuit against defamers and freedom on the internet.

"I think Twitter is practically a chat room, something libertarian, like the whole internet. Do I argue? Of course, I get caught up in it, I can't hold back and I talk too much. But I've already decided: I'm not going to sue anyone. I only said that to scare people. I've had a lot of fun watching the idiots panic and "pretending." I live off my image, I'm an actor, these lawsuits usually end up costing the slanderers dearly... But I repeat: I'm not going to sue anyone. Especially because I've always thought the internet was very libertarian, and it should stay that way. If there's going to be an internet law, it should be to say that there doesn't need to be a law. Or the Constitution alone is enough, and that's more than enough. It has to be a free territory. Without adjectives."

Accusations of homophobia

[The actor was accused of prejudice for refusing to kiss a man on the mouth in a bar]. "Homophobic is great! I did the first gay kiss in Brazilian theater in Manuel Puig's *Kiss of the Spider Woman*. The first live gay sex scene in Brazilian theater. And it was cut by censorship [shows an image of the censorship document on his cell phone] but it was disobeyed every night. I also did the film *A Intrusa*, based on Borges's eponymous short story, with music by Piazzolla, where there was a ménage à trois with two men and a woman, and it ended with a kiss on the mouth between them, who were brothers. It was a Brokeback Mountain 30 years earlier! Damn, I was kissing men on the mouth on stage before these guys who accuse me of homophobia were even born!"

Globo Network doesn't care.

"Globo just renewed my contract for 3 years, as it has been for decades. I got a reasonable raise and I'll be the villain-protagonist in the next six o'clock soap opera. My way of exposing myself, my political stance, ends up valuing me as an artist. And Globo has never, ever, questioned my position. I even talked to the former general director, Florisbal, and he reminded me of Dias Gomes, Oduvaldo Viana Filho – he's the creator of 'A Grande Família' – and Paulo Pontes, all communists who worked extensively at Globo. There's that legend that Roberto Marinho supposedly told the military: 'I'll take care of my communists.' I don't know if it's true, but there was a time with a lot of censorship and political persecution, and Globo started bringing in many talented people, like Paulo José, Hugo Carvana, Paulo Afonso Grisolli... Projac is a dream factory, it has nothing to do with that half-hour of daily news..."

Candidacy for federal deputy

"I'm not going to run for office, I've already decided. I talked to a lot of people and I think it's best not to run, especially because I would have to leave Globo [TV network] and I need the salary, I pay two alimony payments to ex-wives, I help family members, people who ask for help online, animal rescuers..."

Lhasa Apso

"Look, I'm speaking without demagoguery, I've been helping a lot of cats and dogs lately. The other day I helped one that had been beaten so badly that it had lost the skin on its face, only its teeth remained. I really admire these people who dedicate their lives to this cause. There are many of them on Twitter. [And then he elaborates on the Lhasa Apso that appears in the video he made with Rafinha Bastos. "In Tibet they believed that the Lhasa Apso was the reincarnation of monks, and you know, it really gives you a great sense of peace?"]

Zé computer guy

"I've always used the internet, since the early days of BBS, I went through all the phases, mIRC, ICQ and everything else. I've always loved it, my first computer was an IBM-Aptiva. And I liked it so much that I was even the guy who assembled computers for my friends. I assembled more than 10. And my own computer was always open on a table, the parts scattered around, so it was easier to swap them out."

I am what I am.

"Many times I think, I shouldn't have written this... but I go ahead and write it, I can't help it, I'm provocative, I'm a son of a bitch... I'm an artist!"
