247 - Actor Wagner Moura won an award at the Zurich Film Festival for his starring role in the film "O Agente Secreto" (The Secret Agent), directed by filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho. Set in Brazil in 1977, during the Military Dictatorship (1964-1985), the film tells the story of a professor who moves from São Paulo to Recife (PE) in an attempt to leave his past behind and start a new life. His experience in the Pernambuco capital does not go as planned.
"Wagner Moura received the Golden Eye Award for his career and extraordinary performance in Kleber Mendonça Filho's 'The Secret Agent'. He is the first South American actor to receive this award," stated the event's organizers in Switzerland. The report was published in... FSP.
The artist commented on the achievement in a video posted on the festival's official profile. "It's a recognition that I cherish, and I understand that it's not just about me and what I do, but about South American cinema. This makes me very proud."
The filmmaker praised the actor. "Wagner is someone I love. He's a good friend. He's incredibly charismatic. He's a movie star. A great actor and an amazing person. In other words, he's the complete package."
Before The Secret Agent, Kleber Mendonça directed the documentary Ghost Portraits (2023), the dystopian fiction Bacurau (2019), co-directed with Juliano Dornelles; Aquarius (2016), starring Sônia Braga; The Sound Around (2012) and Critic (2008).
