Tom Morello sends a message to racists and fascists who listen to Rage Against the Machine: "This music is against you."
Morello said that those who criticize him for his political opinions "weren't smart enough to know what kind of music you've been listening to all these years."
247 - Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, one of the leading guitarists and songwriters in political rock in recent decades, criticized people who are bothered by his left-wing political stance in a Metal Hammer Q&A session.
“I have several thoughts. One is that you don’t trigger a freedom of speech exemption when you pick up a guitar; that right remains intact,” he pointed out.
"People who get offended by [my opinions on] politics on Twitter or Instagram, please know that it's because you weren't smart enough to know what the music you were listening to all these years was about," the guitarist quipped.
"You're welcome for the music, but if you're a white supremacist or a proto-fascist, this song isn't written for you – it's written against you," he stated.
