LONDON (Reuters) - American singer Taylor Swift topped Forbes magazine's list of the 100 highest-paid celebrities in the world this year, earning $170 million mainly thanks to the huge success of her "1989" tour.

The 26-year-old artist, performer of the song "Shake It Off," came out ahead of the currently inactive boy band One Direction, which finished second with $110 million in profit.

"The pop superstar surpassed the Rolling Stones' North American tour record," Forbes reported in a statement.

With earnings of $95 million, writer and fellow countryman James Patterson came in third place. Psychologist Phil McGraw, an American television personality, and Real Madrid soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo tied for fourth place with earnings of $88 million, according to the magazine.

The other spots among the top 10 went to American comedian Kevin Hart, British singer Adele, Barcelona player Lionel Messi, and American presenters Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh.
