Rock of the galaxies
Dean Wareham, former leader of the defunct American band Galaxie 500, performs a unique show in Brazil, singing classics from the most beloved group in the indie scene. Watch the video.
Dean Wareham, the leader of two Boston independent bands that achieved great success in the early 1990s—Galaxie 500 and Luna—is called Dean & Britta. Their fame was as meteoric as the bands' short lifespan, breaking up in less than four years. Dean has been married to Britta Phillips (former Luna vocalist) since 2003, forming a charismatic musical duo with her. Together they are in Brazil to promote the tour for their album "13 Most Beautiful: Songs for Andy Warhol's Screen," a work that brings together soundtracks made for Andy Warhol's films in a psychedelic and melodious setting and sound. The performance will be on Thursday the 14th in São Paulo and will feature a mix of music and iconic images from the works of the founder of pop art. The good news for Galaxie 500 fans is that the duo will take the opportunity to perform a show (a first in Brazil) at Sesc Pompeia, in São Paulo, on Friday the 15th. The setlist will include songs from the only three albums released by the group between 1987 and 1991: “Today”, “On Fire” and “This is our music”.
