247 - No other popular artist in the history of mankind has composed as many classics as Paul McCartney, who turns 70 this Monday. And the fact that the date is being celebrated worldwide is proof of the enduring nature of his work.
Born at Walton Hospital in Liverpool, Paul formed with John Lennon the most successful songwriting duo of all time. The healthy competition between these two geniuses resulted in hundreds of unforgettable compositions.
Over the past two years, Paul has performed several times in Brazil. In 2010, the former Beatle played in Porto Alegre and São Paulo. Last year, Paul gave two performances at the Engenhão stadium in Rio de Janeiro. In all the performances of the South American Up and Coming Tour, the musician and his band played for more than three hours, gathering more than 70 people at each show.
The ex-Beatle's last visit to Brazil was in April, when he performed in Recife. Paul's trip to Pernambuco injected more than R$ 20 million into the state's economy. According to the Pernambuco Tourism Secretariat, more than 25 visitors from all over the country generated R$ 21.255.722,04 in revenue. On average, tourists and day-trippers spent three days in Pernambuco, with a daily expenditure of R$ 334,86.
