"I have no doubt that Brizola would have voted for Lula in the first round," says José Augusto Ribeiro.

"Lula is just a hair's breadth away from winning in the first round and avoiding the turmoil that Bolsonaro's supporters could cause in the event of a second round," says the journalist and writer.

247 - Journalist and writer José Augusto Ribeiro, author of, among other books, "The Vargas Era" (2001) and a profound connoisseur of Brazilian political history, released a video in which he defends the PDT's support for the candidacy of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

In the video, Ribeiro recalls that in 2002 Brizola supported Lula because Ciro Gomes, then a candidate for the PPS party, had no chance of winning that year's election. "Unable to interfere in Ciro's candidacy, he made the decision to vote for Lula in the first round," says Ribeiro.

"Today, the situation is similar. Ciro doesn't have the slightest chance of reaching the second round. Today, I have no doubt that Brizola would have voted for Lula in the first round," he emphasizes later on.

According to him, "Lula is just a hair's breadth away from winning in the first round and avoiding the turmoil that Bolsonarism could cause in the event of a second round." "If it's not Lula who will win the election, it's Bolsonaro, and you can imagine the consequences of that," Ribeiro says in another part of the video.
