"We are not champions of corruption, we are champions of inequality," Caetano tells Dallagnol.

In August, singer-songwriter Caetano Veloso hosted prosecutor Deltan Dallagnol at his home in Ipanema (Rio de Janeiro). According to an article published in Globo, the meeting "took place on the eve of the act of redress for Judge Marcelo Bretas, whose decisions had been discredited by Minister Gilmar Mendes." In the article, Caetano clarifies his position regarding the Lava Jato Task Force, of which Dallagnol is a member: "My position regarding Lava Jato has not changed in essence. The timing of my responses to the aforementioned interviews shows that I was not an opponent of the task force like those who only saw it as a persecution of the PT (Workers' Party)."

Forum Magazine - In August, the Bahian singer and composer Caetano Veloso received prosecutor Deltan Dallagnol at his home in Ipanema (Rio de Janeiro). The meeting, as Caetano recounts in an article published this Tuesday (19) in Globo, “took place on the eve of the act of protest against Judge Marcelo Bretas, whose decisions had been discredited by Minister Gilmar Mendes”.

In the article, Caetano takes the opportunity to clarify his positions regarding the Lava Jato Task Force, of which Dallagnol is a member: “My position regarding Lava Jato has not changed in essence. The timing of my responses to the aforementioned interviews shows that I was not an opponent of the task force like those who only saw it as a persecution of the PT. My words of relative distrust only emerged after Dilma's impeachment had already taken place and the Temer government had already been installed, with important figures from its core under the operation's scrutiny. Therefore, a PT supporter might think that I didn't criticize the operation when the PT seemed to be its only target.”

Caetano also says that he was against the impeachment. “And I think its consequences are terrible. But Jânio's articles about the task force, which I consider necessary, seemed quite grumpy to me. I wouldn't be happy if the results of the impeachment confirmed his pessimism regarding Lava Jato.”

Regarding the operation, he says he is "a supporter of the internal movement within Brazilian society that produced it. That's why I didn't like it when Judge Moro released the recording of Dilma's phone call to Lula after the stipulated deadline, which played an important role in the public opinion response and strengthened the pro-impeachment movement."

Caetano took advantage of the meeting to say that he hated the PowerPoint presentation. "Dallagnol spoke about it at the meeting as something that didn't work out, although he denied saying he had no proof but was convinced," he recalled.

At the end of the meeting, the singer said he had spoken emphatically with Deltan about "the historical importance of Lula's figure and the significance of his political strength."

In conclusion, he said he believes it is healthy that “we Brazilians remain vigilant so that important actions do not serve to maintain our inequalities. Because we are not champions of corruption, but we are champions of inequality. It is with all this in mind that I wholeheartedly support Lava Jato,” he concluded.
