Brazil Agency - As part of President Lula's delegation in Portugal, the Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, signed a cooperation protocol this Saturday (22) together with the Portuguese Minister of Culture, Pedro Adão e Silva. The document establishes the basis for the launch of binational calls for proposals by the National Film Agency (Ancine) and the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA).

“This renewed relationship between Brazil and Portugal is a wonderful opportunity, and the two meetings we had with Minister Pedro Adão e Silva brought new developments, such as the intention to strengthen, renew, and expand cooperation between the two countries. Portugal is our second largest partner in the audiovisual sector,” stated the minister shortly after participating in the XIII Luso-Brazilian Summit at the Belém Cultural Center.

The agreement covers feature-length fiction, animation, and documentary film projects, produced as international co-productions between Brazilian and Portuguese production companies. Ancine will provide resources to Brazilian projects, and ICA to Portuguese projects. The proposals will be selected by a binational commission.

“We will resume Brazil’s leading role on the international stage, resuming and expanding our participation. Brazil already has 12 bilateral co-production agreements and participates in an international multilateral agreement. But our intention in the audiovisual field is to broaden this scope, strengthening ties with different countries, bringing markets closer, sharing investments, narratives and aesthetics. The Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries has a strategic place in this new moment of our internal policy and international cultural dialogue,” said Joelma Gonzaga, Secretary of Audiovisual at the Ministry of Culture, who accompanied the agenda.
