Mano Brown: "I only see a solution if Lula becomes president"
Brazilian rapper Mano Brown, leader of Racionais MCs, defended the election of former president Lula as a way out of the country's crisis; "Brazilians are waiting for the police to arrive. They think everyone is a thief, as if that were the solution. We are living through a period of low self-esteem, which, in itself, is already incredibly harmful. I only see a solution if Lula becomes president. That way, social progress can continue. If Brazil doesn't do justice, this place will turn into Mad Max," said Brown in a joint interview with rapper Criolo.
247 - Rapper Mano Brown, leader of Racionais MCs, defended the election of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the October elections as a way for the country to overcome the most severe political and economic crisis in its history, following the parliamentary coup of 2016.
"Now, more than ever, people need to regain confidence. It's not about PT, PSDB, Santos, or Corinthians. I can't just think about taking advantage. Brazilians are waiting for the police to arrive.
"I saw people's lives transform during Lula's government. People began to see themselves differently than they had before. Not just Black people, but white people too. Right under my nose. I saw the changes happening. Then you'll ask me: what? And I'll answer: everything. Especially the way Black people saw themselves. The periphery was conservative and prejudiced. To say that Lula's government didn't change the lives of these people is a lie," Brown emphasizes.
For Criolo, the scenario has never been so bleak. "We live under a shadow. The State's greatest tool is fear. They created this situation where talking about politics is boring. Everyone should learn about politics from childhood. Our parliamentarians are approving all the anti-people laws in the dead of night. This is serious," Criolo recalls.
Icons from different generations of the musical genre, both have become symbols of resistance and will perform side by side this Friday, the 15th, at Espaço das Américas, in São Paulo.
