McCarthyism: Boitempo and Contracorrente publishing houses censored at Mackenzie book fair.

"We deeply regret the occurrence of such an episode in the university environment, where, by definition, the pluralism of ideas should prevail, and we publicly register our strongest condemnation of this act of censorship," the publishers stated in a note.

McCarthyism: Boitempo and Contracorrente publishing houses censored at Mackenzie book fair.

247 - The publishing houses Contracorrente and Boitempo released a statement of repudiation against the censorship promoted by the administration of Mackenzie Presbyterian University, which decided to prevent the publishers from participating in the Book Fair organized by the João Mendes Jr. Academic Center in São Paulo. The administration alleges that both publishers do not possess "doctrinal books and legislation for academic use."

The publishers denounced the censorship and, in a statement, affirmed that "two publishers who are openly and frankly engaged in the dissemination of critical thought in Brazil, including in the legal field, are the ones affected by the decision." Furthermore, "both publishers boast a substantial catalog in the field of Law, composed, moreover, of works by professors from the Mackenzie Law School."

The fair is organized by the João Mendes Jr. Academic Center, the representative body of the college's students.

"We deeply regret the occurrence of such an episode in the university environment, where, by definition, the pluralism of ideas should prevail, and we publicly register our strongest condemnation of this act of censorship," the publishers' statement reinforces.

In March, the Mackenzie University administration invited President Jair Bolsonaro to learn about a project related to the use of graphene. The visit was accompanied by a notice to students asking them to wear green and yellow clothing in support of the former captain. Bolsonaro was forced to change his schedule due to protests organized by the students.
