Magalu's store in São Paulo cites polarization and decides to censor a book about Lula.
According to the company, censorship applies to any content deemed political.
247 - Luiz Fernando Emediato, editor of Geração Editorial, was perplexed by Magalu's cancellation of the event to launch the book "Lula Lá e Outras Histórias" by advertising executive Paulo de Tarso. The author strongly rejected the decision.
The journalist Mônica Bergamo, from Folha de São Paulo, reported this Tuesday (3) that the event, scheduled for the 11th at the Magalu bookstore in Conjunto Nacional, in São Paulo-SP, was prohibited. The company alleges political reasons in the face of a political environment of 'polarization', according to the journalist.
According to Paulo de Tarso, the book about President Lula (PT) is not partisan, but an account of his memories.
Magalu explained the decision in a statement: "Due to the election year, Magalu has instituted a new guideline for all its brands: not to promote any actions or events that could be – even if erroneously – interpreted as partisan or supportive of political figures."
The company also stated in the note that it is "non-partisan" and that it "engages in dialogue with all democratic perspectives and respects diversity of opinion."
Magalu apologized to Paulo de Tarso and Geração Editorial. The company also stated that the new guideline was established after the event was scheduled.
